Blog Post #4: Shadow

Image
I think these qualities are a part of yourself by using the traits of the person you personally dislike or traits that you secretly admire to really describe you. Yes, I believe I have described my shadow. I see the connection between myself and the person I personally know. The notion of the shadow might explain a reason why people are allured to villains because some villains have around the same qualities as some people just described. “My Shadow qualities” for this exercise were obsession, comfort zone, rejection, and confidence. When completing this Shadow exercise, I also described the person I admire, but not love most in the world. I think this says that if you acknowledge this part of your shadow that it doesn’t necessarily say you condone the behavior/quality trait. It just opens your eyes to see yourself to stop resisting the truth because we have strongly denied this part of ourselves.  I think this “Shadow Exercise” is to look deep within our own person’s self to accur...

Blog Post #3: Picasso

The atmosphere of the picture, “Guernica” (1937)  is sadness and sorrow. It makes me feel this way because the looks of the faces in the image. I can decipher out of the image a bull, horse, and people. The subject could be something with the toughness of the bull and the sad looks of the people could rely something about a war, perhaps. I think the content and form of the Guernica is an abstract portrait. The artist uses lines and shapes to render the images, such as pointing our attention to the major pieces of the painting. The personal context of why the artist chose to paint this image might have been a war or fighting around him at the time caused inspiration to have him paint this portrait of Guernica. The images of the bull, horse and people stand out to me the most. I like how the artist uses other objects in the image to create another object in the painting. What I dislike about the painting is that the artist only used black and white colors. The artist might have caug...

Portrait of a Man Van Gogh Painting  https://www.vangoghgallery.com/catalog/Painting/2133/Portrait%20of%20a%20Man.html The gold/yellow lighting around the person can indicate divine lighting. For instance, it’s like the person is to a higher power, e.g. God. The painting of the man looks like God, or Jesus, or maybe it’s a portrait of someone who encountered Van Gogh in his lifetime. I feel somehow more connected with religion, in particularly mine. The image reminds me of a person who is of a higher power in the Christian/Catholic part of religion. The image provides the man looking upward and perhaps is looking for hope as his eyes are soft and not filled with tension. I like the piece of work because Van Gogh used soft basic hues of color. The mood perceived in this artwork is energetic. I think the mood was created by the elements of painting. For example, the value, texture, and the space that made up the image created an outstanding work of art. The value is de...
